The Simple Act
The Simple Act is a queer response to toxic masculinity.
The text was gathered in a library which was dominated by art theories and histories written by men and about men. There was little queer theory and the only reference content towards women objectified their bodies. Tarzan ripped apart these words and glued them back together with a queer lens.
Horses are the ultimate symbol of elite masculinity. In the Barbie (2023) movie, the Kens love of horses – a strong motif in the second half of the movie – nods to the idea of stallions as the epitome of manhood.
Fish determining Tinder matches by their catch-of-the-day might sound superficial. But relationship gurus believe that this behavior is rooted in the instinct to judge a potential partner’s ability to put food on the table — the logic being: the bigger the fish, the more adept its provider.
The collage combines Tarzan’s gender queer body with a Cishet male body 🐴 🐠
