Do I seduce you?

Northern Centre for Contemporary Art

Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia

Date

June, 2021

Tarzan's first solo exhibition 'Do I seduce you? ' is a memoir piece that explores their experience as a queer-bodied human finding a voice. Sometimes there are no words or blurbs that can sum up the explosion of confusion that comes from within; the juices that need to leak out. Do I seduce you? interrupts the privilege system and gives a queer voice to an unexplainable body while also inviting the viewer to question their own desires and identity. The exhibition consisted of mixed media including, three large wall murals, one video work titled 'MINE?', 12 framed works titled 'free the nipple', 64 works on plastic take away lids, front window display installation and toilet block installation with interactive elements.

This exhibition was developed while attending an arts residencies in Mpantwe (Alice Springs) at Watch this Space https://www.wts.org.au/open-studio-tarzan-junglequeen. A residency at Pirrie Space https://www.pirrie.space/new-page-1 and a mentorship project with Story Projects - Octopus https://www.storyprojects.com.au/octopus.

Funded by Arts NT where Tarzan was able to engage two mentors, Artist Mathew Van Roden for installation advice and author/story teller Johanna Bell to develop and publish their 'Do i seduce you?' book.

Tarzan hosted an opening and closing party, featuring local Queer/trans DJ's, performers and a welcome to country.
